Standard vs. Deep Cleaning: What's the Difference?
"Standard" (also called recurring or maintenance) cleaning keeps a house that's already clean looking that way. A deep clean resets a house that's fallen behind — or a home that's never had a professional touch it. Here's exactly what's different, when each one is right, and what each costs in the western Chicago suburbs.

How often do you need each?
A standard clean on a recurring schedule is designed to keep up. Most three-bedroom homes in DuPage County land on a biweekly rhythm — often enough that surfaces never build up, spaced enough to stay affordable. Families with pets, young kids, or high-traffic entryways usually prefer weekly. Retired couples or professionals who travel a lot often stretch to monthly.
A deep clean is a reset. Most homes need one once or twice a year even on a recurring schedule — spring and fall are the two natural windows. If it's been more than six months since anyone hand-wiped your baseboards or scrubbed shower grout, that's your signal.
Pricing: what each service costs
Every quote is flat and in writing based on your home's size, number of bathrooms, and current condition. Ballpark starting prices in Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, and the surrounding suburbs:
- Recurring / standard cleaning — starts at $120 per visit.
- One-time deep cleaning — starts at $200 per visit.
- Move-in / move-out cleaning — starts at $300 per visit.
Deep cleans cost more because they take roughly 1.5–2× longer than a standard clean of the same home — the labor is what you're paying for. On the other side, your recurring per-visit price is lower than a one-time clean because a maintained home is faster to clean.
When to book a deep clean vs. standard
Book a deep clean if:
- You're starting service with a new cleaning company (most companies require this on the first visit).
- It's been six months or more since a professional cleaned the home.
- You can visibly see buildup — soap scum on shower doors, dust on baseboards, kitchen cabinet grease, sticky range hood.
- You're preparing for a party, holiday, or open house.
- Allergy season is starting and you want a full reset of dust, dander, and pollen.
Book a standard clean if:
- You already have a cleaner and just need routine maintenance.
- Your home was deep-cleaned within the last two to three months.
- You want a predictable recurring rhythm — weekly, biweekly, or monthly.
Common questions
Do I have to start with a deep clean?
For most homes, yes — it's the only way we can guarantee results going forward. If your home has been professionally maintained in the last two months, we can sometimes start with a standard clean and skip the deep. We'll tell you honestly during the quote.
Can I combine a deep clean with move-out cleaning?
Move-in / move-out cleaning is essentially an empty-home deep clean plus inside cabinets, inside drawers, and inside appliances. If the home is already empty, book move-in/out — not deep.
What about inside the oven and fridge?
Both are available as add-ons for standard and deep cleans (fixed $75 add-on each). They're excluded from the base service to keep the price predictable.
