Does a House Cleaning Service Clean Inside Appliances and Cabinets? Here's What to Expect

Not sure if your cleaning service will open the fridge or clean inside the oven? Sigita from Crystal Broom Cleaning explains exactly when inside-appliance cleaning is included — and when it's not.

This is one of those questions where the honest answer is: it depends — and any cleaning company that says "yes, always" without asking more questions is probably not being straight with you. So let me break it down clearly, because knowing this ahead of time will save you from a frustrating surprise on cleaning day. ## The Short Answer For a regular recurring cleaning, no — the inside of your appliances and cabinets are not typically included. We clean the outside and visible surfaces. We're polishing your fridge door, wiping down the microwave exterior, cleaning the stovetop. But we're not opening the oven or pulling out the vegetable drawer. For a deep clean, some of that changes. And for a move-out clean, we go all the way in — fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher, inside and outside of cabinets. Everything. Here's why the distinction matters, and how to know what you actually need. ## What a Regular Clean Covers in the Kitchen When we do a recurring clean — the weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly visits that keep your home maintained — the kitchen work includes cleaning counters, the stove surface, the microwave, the sink, polishing appliances, dusting light fixtures, cleaning the dining table, and vacuuming and mopping. We also wipe down the outside of trash cans and dust the cabinet doors. That's a thorough clean of everything you touch and see every day. It keeps your kitchen looking and feeling clean consistently. But we're not moving into deep-scrub territory on the inside of things — that's a different service for a reason. ## When Does Inside-Appliance Cleaning Happen? If you book a deep clean, you get more detail throughout the whole house — wet wiping baseboards, outlet covers, light switches, inside cabinet faces. In the kitchen, we clean the stove and oven more thoroughly, get the microwave inside and out, and do a deeper pass on everything. For a move-out clean, that's when we really go in. Refrigerator inside and out. Freezer inside and out. Oven inside and out. Stove and range inside and out. Microwave inside and out. Dishwasher inside and out. Cabinets inside and out. Every surface, every door, every drawer. That level of detail is what landlords are looking for when they do their final walkthrough. I work with a lot of families in Naperville, Downers Grove, and Elmhurst who are moving out and worried about their security deposit — and a proper move-out clean is one of the best things you can do to protect it. ## Why Don't Regular Cleans Include All of That? Because it would take twice as long and cost twice as much — every single visit. And most homes that are cleaned regularly don't need that level of detail every time. Think about it this way: if your oven gets a deep scrub in February, and then we come every two weeks, by April it still doesn't need another deep scrub. Doing that work every visit would mean you're paying for something that doesn't actually need doing yet. The goal of a regular cleaning schedule is to maintain. The goal of a deep clean is to reset. They serve different purposes, and a good cleaning company should be honest with you about which one you actually need. ## How to Know What You Need Before You Book If your home has been professionally cleaned recently and you just want to keep up with it — a regular recurring clean is probably right for you. You can start right away. If it's been a while, if you just moved in, or if you're getting ready for a big event — a deep clean first makes more sense. We start from a clean baseline, and then the recurring visits keep it there. If you're moving out and want your deposit back — book a move-out clean. Don't try to DIY the oven the night before your final walkthrough. I say this from experience and from conversations with customers in Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, Westmont, and Burr Ridge who've been there. Kaitlin S., one of our customers, described us as "thorough, reliable, and trustworthy" — and that's what I want every customer to feel. Not surprised on cleaning day. Not confused about what was done. Just confident that the right things got handled. ## One More Thing Worth Knowing After every single clean, we send you a completed checklist. You can see exactly what was done, room by room. And if anything wasn't right, you have 24 hours to let us know and we'll come back and fix it at no charge. No guessing. No wondering. Just a clean home and a clear record of what got done. If you want to see what's included in your specific situation — regular, deep, or move-out — you can book directly or reach out at crystalbroom.net. Ready to get started? Book your first clean here. And your second cleaning is 50% off. So there's very little reason not to try it.
